Nintendo Switch and Accessories

Posted in Gaming, Tech

I’ve been eyeing the Nintendo Switch since it released earlier this year and I finally was able to purchase one thanks to money and giftcards I got for Christmas. Tuesday morning I woke up at 7am and drove to Target (had to actually drive to 2 locations before I was able to get one) and purchased the Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as my first game. I had been planning on buying one possibly around Christmas time so I started doing research on what games to buy and accessories a week or so beforehand, so here’s what I got.

First up is a carrying case. What I like about this is that it has an area to hold all of my games (so far besides Zelda I also got Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8) and it also came with a screen protector which was really is to put on. When I’m not playing or charging the system, it’s pretty much always in this case. When I originally purchased it it came in blue, solid black, and red. I purchased mine from Amazon, here for $17.99.

Instead of using my usual gaming headset I wanted something that was much more portable. So I picked up these Zelda earbuds on ebay for $10! They fit perfectly in the case and the sound quality isn’t that bad. The exact seller I purchased them from doesn’t seem to have any currently, but there are other sellers currently selling them. You can also find them in most retail stores like Target, but I”m not sure about the price.

The final and probably my favorite accessory is the LED dock shield. It comes with 2 plates currently, Zelda and Mario but I’m hoping they’ll add more in the future. I really love the extra flair it adds to my desk. You can rotate between a variety of colors or just pick a single color (I personally like the fading rotation of the colors!). My only real complaint about it is that the protective blue film that was on both plates was really hard to take off but once you got it off you could really see how beautiful it looks! It was $15.99 on Amazon, can find it here.

Overall I’m really happy with the Nintendo Switch and the accessories I’ve purchased for it so far, I’m excited to see what games and other things Nintendo comes out for it in 2018. The only other accessory that I ordered that hasn’t arrived yet is a dock cover (for when I’m not using the LED one) which I purchased on Etsy.

Pros and Cons of Working From Home

Posted in Work

I’ve officially been working from the comfort of my home for over 2 years now and I have to say that I LOVE it. If you’re considering trying to work from home, I highly recommend it, but it does have it’s pros and cons. Let’s start on a positive note shall we?

Zero commute. You can literally wake up and start work. No traffic jams, no long lines trying to get your morning coffee, just wake up and take a few steps into your office and you’re there.

Save Money

As previously mentioned you have no commute so saving money every month on gas is a huge plus. I maybe fill my gas tank once a month from running errands, but sometimes it’s every other month. On top of that I save money on food.

When I worked in an office it was very convenient (and expensive) to buy food from a vending machine. Plus since I was already out, why not drive somewhere and have them make my food for me? This often led to spending money on food I didn’t need to, and eating unhealthily. Now since I’ve been working at home, I’ve actually lost some weight and I save money on food since I only have access to the food I already purchased (unless of course I order delivery, but I don’t do that often).

No Shared Space

Your house is literally your office. You don’t have to worry about a gross/messy breakroom, a messy bathroom, or a messy office because it’s your own living space. You don’t have to worry about waiting to use the microwave to heat up your food or worry about the coffee pot being empty. Now of course if you’re house is a mess that’s a different story … but I do enjoy sometimes using my breaks to wash dishes and start laundry 😛

No Pants

Seriously. You can pretty much wear anything you want when you work at home. Want to work today in a robe? Go for it! No pants? Go for it! Now of course if your job requires a webcam I wouldn’t recommend going too crazy, but not having to wear anything specific is both cost effective and pretty nice.

When you work from home, it’s pretty much just you and your job. Even if you and your coworkers use some sort of a chat program to communicate, it can still get very lonely because it’s not the same. I love  my job, but sometimes the highlight of my day is going to Target or out to lunch just so I can see another human being face-to-face and have a 5 minute conversation with someone I can actually see.

This kinda also goes with socializing, but I find I have moments of pure boredom. Again you are completely by yourself, so you don’t have coworkers in a near by office or cubicle to entertain you sometimes. I personally watch a lot of Netflix to help with this, makes great background noise for work which helps me focus.

Staying Focused

Sometimes it’s difficult to stay focused on work when you’re not in a normal work environment. I find I have moments where I start getting distracted by something, but I’ve learned to get myself back on task. If I continue to have trouble focusing on work, that’s usually when I take a break for lunch or go check the mail or something so I can refocus when I get back to my desk which helps a lot.

Overall working from home has it’s pros and con, but I wouldn’t want it any other way! I LOVE working at home and hope to continue to be able to do it for as long as possible.

My Gaming/Office Tour and Setup

Posted in Gaming, Tech

Since I moved back in January 2017 I’ve been making my office my own over the last year. My gaming setup has definitely stepped up and I really love how it has come together. So here’s an office tour!

When you first step into my office, off to the left you see a bunch of paintings that I’ve done over the years as well as some World of Warcraft banners.

Closer look at the 3 tier shelf that I got from Michael’s. Has a bunch of pens, pencils, lipgloss/lipstick, extra cables, and more.

This is my DX racer chair in pink with a WoW blanket, Sailor Moon blanket, Hearthstone pillow, and Twitch pollow.

Here’s a look at my triple monitor setup with my Blue Yeti mic and other goodies.

How I Made $135 Through Ebates

Posted in Random

Before I dive into this post I want to start off by saying this is NOT sponsored, everything mentioned here is from my own experience. So far I’ve made quite a bit of money just from shopping online (which I do anyways!), and I wanted to share it with others.

I signed up for Ebates back in 2011, but I hardly used it. Over the last year I’ve been using it a lot more. I even installed their extension for Google Chrome, so anytime I’m shopping online it reminds me to activate it to earn cash back. This was a huge issue for me and why I never used it, I always forgot about it, but since I’ve been so active with using it, I’m up to almost $135 lifetime cash back! They send payments every few months, so my checks this year have varied from $20 to even $50 depending on how much online shopping I did.

Since I am huge into planning and buying things at places like eBay, Amazon, and Etsy, earning money for doing what I’m already doing (spending money) is wonderful! It’s seriously amazing. You can even install an app on your phone, which I’ve used here and there as well. My goal for 2018 is to try and use it more to see how much I’d truly make if I was actively using it for an entire year.

January 2018 Blogathon

Posted in Blogathon, Updates

*taps mic* Is this thing on? It’s been a while, but oh hey new header that I actually like … so we’ll see how that goes. I had an issue with WordPress and had to reinstall everything  so I figured why not come back to blogging by doing a blogathon? So for the entire month of January I’ll be blogging daily. If anyone would like to participate, please comment and let me know. There will be a prompt for everyday of the month + some extra prompts in case some don’t apply to you.

Day 1: Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? What are they? If you don’t, why not?

Day 2: Introduction, talk about yourself + share a photo.

Day 3: How did you get into blogging and how has it changed for you since then?

Day 4: Top 5 movies and why

Day 5: 20 facts about you.
