I Tried Dinnerly, A Review

Posted in Review

For the last year or so I feel like meal delivery services have sky rocketed and you can’t browse anywhere on the internet without running into an ad or someone talking about their favorite. I’ve been wanting to try one for a while now, but most of the ones I looked into I didn’t really like any of the meals that they offered … until now. Recently I saw an ad for Dinnerly and for the price, I checked it out. Your first box is $30 (includes free shipping for the first one) and 3 meals. What I liked about Dinnerly was that you can see their menu at any time and pick which week(s) you want meals. Here’s how it went. Please also note this is 100% NOT sponsored, I purchased it myself and wanted to write about it. So here we go.

Delivery Day

Inside the box

I received my first box on May 7th and UPS delivered it around 1:30pm. Delivery times and such may vary, but I figured I’d share when I got it. I opened the box and noticed a bunch of bags of lots of food. When I took all of those out I found 2 large ice packs and between the were the meats. I had no issues with any of the food that was packaged (although I do wish it was a bit organized, seems like a huge waste of a lot of plastic bags) and I sorted everything by meal myself to keep myself organized for the week. So Monday I decided to cook the first meal!

Between 2 icepacks were the meats. Which were also packaged pretty well.

Meal 1: Beef and Broccoli Noodles with Teriyaki-Peanut Sauce

So with this meal delivery service one perk (which also cuts costs) is that you don’t get recipe cards delivered with the box, they’re just online (which you can of course print). The recipe for this meal was super easy to follow, the only extras I needed was water, little bit of sugar, and salt. This meal was super easy to cook, and the only thing I did differently then what they had listed was I cooked the broccoli a little bit longer than they suggested because I prefer my broccoli to be way more tender.

I couldn’t find a proper lid lol, but it worked!

This meal tasted AMAZING! It says the portions are for 2, but I had so much food leftover that this ended up really being enough meals for 3-4 people (which is fine with me I love leftovers). The recipe was easy to follow and the dish was simple but delicious. I will so be making this dish again either myself, or ordering it again from Dinnerly. This dish was so good, I don’t even think it needed the meat!

Final meal

My overall rating for this specific meal is  ★★★½☆

Meal 2: Moo Shu Turkey Tacos with Hoisin Sauce

I was excited to try this meal, but I didn’t eat it. The directions were easy to follow but overall the flavor was just not there for me. I think the dish would have been better with chicken instead of ground turkey. I did, however, like the tortillas and ended up just using those to make my own quesadillas for dinner instead. This is not a meal I would buy again. I have no photos of this because I didn’t eat it …

Overall rating for this specific meal: ★☆☆☆☆

Meal 3: Mediterranean Meatball Pitas with Lemon Tahini Sauce

My 3rd and final meal from the box! This meal was also fairly easy to make, just felt like it had a few more steps which is completely fine. The meatballs were AMAZING and tastes great as did the pitas. My only complaint is the sauce, I was not a huge fan of it and as you can see in my final photo my pita has zero sauce. I found it was fine with just the cucumbers and meatballs.

Overall rating for this specific meal: ★★½☆☆

Overall Thoughts

Overall I was really happy with Dinnerly and the meals provided, even though I had meal I was not a huge fan of. These are meals I probably would have never tried myself, and probably the main one I plan on recreating (probably a lot) is the Beef and Broccoli Noodles with Teriyaki-Peanut Sauce recipe. It was simple, but delicious! I ended up canceling my subscription right after my first box, but I do eventually plan on resubbing at some point and giving it another try. Overall I give it a 3.5/5 stars. The packaging could have been a bit better as could have the recipes, but the recipes I did enjoy were delicious.

Final Rating:  ★★★½☆

I Tried the Starbucks Crystal Ball Frappuccino

Posted in Random

Recently Starbucks came out with a brand new drink and of course I had to try it. Here’s what they say on their website about the drink:

A mystical, swirling peach infusion topped with peach flavored whipped cream, turquoise sprinkles and one of three different candy gems that reveal your fortune (not even your barista knows what your future holds). Order, gaze, then all will be told. And while we can’t predict what your gems will reveal, we can tell you this drink is only here for a few short days.

I love peach flavored things so I had to try this and I was pleasantly surprised! The drink isn’t overly peachy or even overly sweet but has a good balance. My candy gems on top for me meant “adventure”, which I am all for.

I think really my only complaint was that I wish mine had more of the green swirl in the drink and more candy gems on top since it comparison to other photos I saw of the drink mine seemed to have way less.

This is definitely a Starbucks drink that I hope returns and I highly recommend trying it.

Meal Prep Frozen Breakfast Burritos

Posted in Recipe

One of my favorite things to prep for the week is breakfast burritos! I love these because you can customize them to your liking and just keep them in the freezer until you’re ready to enjoy. So let’s get started!

  • 5-7 eggs (depending on their size and how many burritos you want to make, I used 5 eggs and was able to make 8 small burritos)
  • Tortillas (I prefer the smaller ones but you can use any size)
  • 1/2 lb of sausage
  • Shredded cheese

You can also cook some bacon, potatoes, anything else you want to add into them this is just the ingredients I used this week.

My Brand New Car!

Posted in Personal

I promise I still plan to blog after the January Blogathon, I just need a little break! My year started a little rough, but last week something amazing happened … I GOT A NEW CAR!

I had my old 2002 Toyota Camry for about 6 or so years (it was previously owned by my mother, she got a new car and gave me her old) and even then I was the 3rd person to own it. The car served me well, but as you can see in the photo the paint was coming off (it didn’t do well in the Ohio winters!) and besides that it had other issues: windshield wipers recently broke, driver’s side window would stick, and the driver’s side seat wouldn’t move (would cost over 1k just to fix the seat … and the car wasn’t worth that much). I had the Camry during my last few years of college and it went on my journey of driving from Florida to Ohio when I moved and back again when I moved back. The car served me well, but I’m glad I was able to get a new one.

My new car is a 2018 Kia Sportage in red. I almost got another blue car but my mother mentioned the red and I fell in love with the photos, so glad I decided to get red! It’s different going from driving cars to a SUV but I love it and don’t plan on driving anything else. I hadn’t planned on getting a new vehicle this year, but the timing was perfect and I couldn’t pass up the deal I was offered. I LOVE my new car!

Has a very spacious backset and trunk which means it’ll perfect to drive on roadtips! Since the car was driven from another state it already has almost 400 miles on it, but considering my last car was up to 155k miles it’s totally fine with me 😛

I love my new car and I can’t wait to see what adventures we’ll get into this year and the years to come.

The End

Posted in Blogathon, Random

Blogathon Day 31: The End. How’d you do in the blogathon? How did January treat you? Any favorite moments?

Overall I’m proud of myself for sticking to the blogathon and blogging every day! My hopes for the blog is to continue blogging weekly. The blogathon really brought back my passion for blogging and it’s something I want to do, I never missed a day and I’m proud of myself for that.

Overall January wasn’t the best month, but I turned 32 and had some good moments as well. Here’s to February 🙂

For the entire month of January I’m participating in a Blogathon. All posts associated with it can be found under the Blogathon category.

Hello, February

Posted in Blogathon, Personal

Blogathon Day 30: What do you hope for in February?

February is right around the corner, so let’s go over some hopes and goals! These may be similar to my yearly ones. January ended up being a very up and down month, so I’m hoping February is a little easier on me lol.

1. Job

Finding a new job would be amazing! Or at least just some odd jobs to do to make extra money.

2. Weightloss

Goal in the next month is to continue to eat fairly healthy and to get into the habit of working out weekly, even if it’s just going for a walk.

3. Creating Content

I hope to continue to maintain my streaming schedule of 6 days a week and uploading several videos a week.

4. Relaxing

I’m really bad at actually taking time to myself to relax which I’d like to work on and hope to do more in the next month. Even if it’s just sitting down and watching a movie, I have a hard time truly relaxing and always end up working on something instead.

Hopes and goals for next month are pretty simple, so I hope to be able to do them! Do you have any for February?

Living In Azeroth

Posted in Blogathon, Gaming

Blogathon Day 29: If you could enter the world of any game, movie, tv show, etc. which one would you enter and why? What is one you wouldn’t want to live in?

In a previous post I mentioned wanting to live in the world of Harry Potter, so for this one let’s talk about a game!

One game I’ve played for 10+ years is World of Warcraft and I’d LOVE to live in Azeroth. As you level your character you are met with more and more breathtaking zones filled with gorgeous scenery and some interesting creatures to fight along the way. Now of course if I lived there I’d want it to be during a peaceful time of no war please 😛

What world would you love to enter?

Interviewing My Grandparents

Posted in Blogathon, Personal

Blogathon Day 28: Who is one person (dead or alive) you’d love to interview?

When I first read this prompt I immediately thought of more than one person, so I’m going to cheat and talk about 4 people instead. If I could interview anyone dead or alive, I would hands down choose my grandparents. When I was 6 I lost my grandfather (my dad’s dad) and 10+ years ago I lost my mother’s dad. Last year I lost my grandmother (my dad’s mom) and a year and one day before that I lost my other grandmother (mother’s mom). Sounds complicated, but basically the only grandparents I have left are my stepmom’s and although I love them dearly, I miss my other ones too.

After their deaths suddenly a list in my head began to form with questions I wish I asked but never did. I’m still thankful for the memories that I do have and the photos and the recipes that they passed down, because it does allow their memory to live on.

Learning Guitar

Posted in Blogathon, Personal

Blogathon Day 27: What is one thing you wish you were good at?

One thing I wish I knew how to do was play guitar. I got an acoustic guitar when I was about 15/16 for Christmas and a few years ago I tried to teach myself how to play, but then I moved (couldn’t bring it with me) so I had to stop. Now that I am back in Florida and have my guitar again I’d really like to learn how to play it.

I know a little bit on piano, but I’ve just never really learned how to play an instrument. One day!

Friday Favorites

Posted in Blogathon, Personal

Blogathon Day 26: Friday Favorites, tell us about some of your favorite things.

Here are just some of my favorite things this month.

1. Video Game

Overwatch, of course. But I also recently started to play (finally) Skyrim and I’m really enjoying it!

2. Food

Made manicotti for the first time this week and it was AMAZING, it’ll be on my list of things to make again! Was so easy and delicious, even tasted amazing heated up the next day.

3. TV Show

Going to pick 2, one that is new and currently airing and one that I’m rewatching. So for the new one it’s 9-1-1, it’s a show basically about first responders from 9-1-1 operators to fire firefighters etc. Show only has 4 episodes so far, but it’s really good. A show I started rewatching is Monk, I watched the show about season 4 or 5 when it originally aired but I never saw the entire thing (or even the ending, I think I moved away for school around that time). I’m currently in the last season, season 8!

I couldn’t come up with more than 3 things because I suck, but maybe I can do these monthly and include other things in the list as well.
