My Graphic Design Degree

Posted in Blogathon, Personal

Blogathon Day 10: If you went to school, what did you go to school for?

So I originally got my AA from a community college and then after that I went on to get my Bachelor’s degree, which I’ll mostly be talking about now. In January 2007 I started attending Florida State University, it was the only university I applied (which was dumb, but thankfully I got in!) and I was excited to move away from home and go to school.

The degree I actually got is a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Studio Art with a concentration and graphic and web design, although I don’t really use my degree right now as my job I have no regrets about getting it. I LOVED attending FSU and I loved their design program. I learned a lot from my professors as well as my fellow classmates and over the last few years have toyed with the idea of going back to school to get my Master’s (maybe one day). You can see some of the art I made for class above (one is a digital poster and the other is a self portrait painting), I still have a lot of the artwork I made in school and even some of the paintings I did for some of my classes still hang on the walls in my office.

My 2 favorite classes that I took were probably photography and painting. Photography was something I was always interested in and the class allowed me to not only learn how to take and process photos with a film camera, but also I got to use my Photoshop skills in editing the photos myself. My painting class I took with my figure drawing professor, so I already knew her which made things a lot easier. I learned A LOT from that class and really want to get back into painting.

If you want to see any of my classwork from when I was in school I have some of the work on my Flickr page.

10 Things On My Bucket List

Posted in Blogathon, Personal

Blogathon Day 9: List 10 things on your bucket list. (original prompt: Favorite childhood memory?)

For Day 9 I decided to swap out the original prompt with one of the optional ones, mostly because I couldn’t think of anything lol. Not that I don’t have some amazing childhood memories, but I didn’t think I remembered enough detail to really write about it. So here we go, 10 Things On My Bucket List aka things I want to do before I die in no particular order.

1. Travel to Another Country

I have never been outside of the US, so I would love to vacation in another country ideally for a month … but 2 weeks would be great too! Some places I’d love to visit in no particular order: Japan, Canada, Spain, France, Australia, England, and pretty much anywhere else.

2. Get a Tattoo

I mentioned in my 20 Facts About Me post that I’ve always wanted to get a tattoo, even if it was just something small. So that is another thing on my list that I’m hoping to get before I turn 35 (so 3 years to go!).

3. Go on a Cruise

I’ve always loved the idea of going on a cruise, specifically I’d love to do an Alaskan cruise but honestly I’d be fine going anywhere.

4. Swim with Sharks

I love sharks. I’ve always been fascinated with them and one day I’d love to go swimming with them in the ocean. I’d like to actually do it twice, once with a cage and once without. I’d also like to swim with dolphins, but obviously not at the same time.

5. Go to a Convention

I’ve always wanted go to a convention, the one I’d love to go to is Blizzcon, but I’d be happy with any comic, anime, gaming or some other nerd convention.

6. Hot Air Balloon

My grandparents a very long time ago for one of their anniversaries did a hot air balloon ride and it looked like SO much fun. Since then I’ve always wanted to do it.

7. Skydiving

Another thing I’ve always wanted to do is go skydiving, I also love the idea of filming the entire experience.

8. Learn to Play Guitar

When I was about 15 or so I asked for an acoustic guitar for Christmas. I still have it, and I have no idea how to play it. Before I moved up north a few years ago I started to teach myself how to play it, but quit since I didn’t

9. Learn to Surf

Although I’ve spent most of my life in Florida, I’ve never been surfing and I hope to learn one day!

10. Go Back to School

Something I’ve been thinking about doing is going back to school, not necessarily for another degree (although I would like to get my masters) but to just take some classes in general (painting, drawing, etc).

So those are 10 things on my bucket list, what are some things on yours?

Something I Miss

Posted in Blogathon, Personal

Blogathon Day 8: Something You Miss (previous prompt Day in the Life via photos or just pure text)

So I decided to swap today’s prompt for another one, because I ended up not running errands today and I’d rather do a DIL post when I’m actually do something that day, so I’ll do that later this week instead!

Anyways. One thing I really miss is snow. I lived in Ohio for 3 winters and something I enjoyed every winter was the snow fall. Even after living there for over 2 years, I still loved it.

There’s something so peaceful about watching the snow fall. I hope to eventually move back up north or to another country that has snow. One day!

  16. I love to paint and hope to get back into it this year as well as drawing.
  17. I owned a pet chicken in 4th grade, we hatched them in class and my mom (surprisingly) let me take one home. I named her Beeper.
  18. I have green eyes, although they were blue up until I was about 3 or 4.
  19. I love sharks so much that I hope to one day swim with them, once in a cage and another time out of the cage.

How I Got Into Blogging

Posted in Blogathon, Personal

Blogathon Day 3: How did you get into blogging and how has it changed for you since then?

I remember I first got into making websites when I was around 12. I remember seeing websites made by other people and thinking “I can do that”, and so I did. I created my first site on Geocities and it was then that I fell in love with coding and trying to make my own graphics. Around that age I remember I found this random forum and it was there that I learned about blogging and what I could truly turn my website into. Shortly after being on Geocities for a bit I got a subdomain on someone’s site and eventually opened up my first site, myveracity, net (shown in the image above) and then moved sites over the years. Besides using my own websites I also used Livejournal for the longest time and still have access to my old posts, some of which cause me to cringe haha.

Back then I remember just coming home from school and signing on the computer and just writing about my day. Back then I used to share who I had a crush on and other things I probably shouldn’t have been posting on the internet, but I was young. Over the last 5+ years I just fell out of blogging and the blogging scene and I miss it. Back then I just did it because I enjoyed it, but I found I was overthinking everything I wanted to post. I wanted to make sure it was perfect and didn’t want to just blog for the sake of blogging. This is something I’m hoping to change this year, I want to share things and I want to be able to look back on the things I posted and be so thankful that I have those memories.

Writing About Myself Is Hard

Posted in Blogathon, Personal

Blogathon Day 2: Introduction, talk about yourself + share a photo.

So uh … like the title says writing about myself is hard. You’d think with 15+ years of blogging and having to make content that revolved around me that I’d get better at it, I haven’t. So here goes nothing … my name is Veronica but for short most just call me Vero. I’m an avid gamer and currently stream 6-7 days on Twitch. The current game I play the most is Overwatch, but I do enjoy other games too (like World of Warcraft, Zelda, and more). When I’m not streaming myself playing games I can most  likely be found creating gaming content for my YouTube channel. When I’m not doing that I can most likely be found working, I currently work (2 years at the end of March!) for a gaming company (no I won’t say which one). I LOVE my job, basically I make sure the players are behaving and handle player reports. I’ve been working in the gaming community for almost 3 years and I hope to continue to work in it.

Besides gaming I also love watching shows on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. On Amazon Prime I’m currently watching Monk and I’m on season 4! I love using shows and movies as background noise when I work since I do it from home.

Let’s see what else … I also love animals although I haven’t owned an animal for several years now (used to have a dog named Neo that sadly had to be put to sleep in 2012). I’m hoping to move again in the next 2 or so years and once I do I’ll be adopting a dog or a cat … or both, who knows. I also became single earlier this year and I don’t see that changing anytime soon, which is fine. I’ve totally accepted that I’ll end up a crazy cat/dog lady one day 😛 The picture I shared if one of my favorites even though it’s years old, I just think it’s funny.

I think that’s it … feel free to ask questions in the comments!

Hello, 2018

Posted in Blogathon, Personal, Random

Blogathon Day 1: Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? What are they? If you don’t, why not?

I’ve never really been one to make New Year’s resolutions, mostly because I know it’s things I may not stick to but also because it’s things I want to do year round and make those decisions throughout the year and just every year when a new year starts. I did, however, make a video going over my 2018 Gaming Resolutions on my YouTube channel. Overall I just prefer to make goals … so here are some of mine for 2018!

  1. Weight loss. I lost about 35lbs in 2017 and I’d like to continue to lose more weight.
  2. Stay organized. I got into a fairly decent habit of using a planner and I’d like to continue to stick to it.
  3. To be happy. I realize this is a bit random, but I really want to focus on myself more this year and on the things that make me truly happy.
  4. Travel more. The only traveling I did in 2017 was when I moved in February, this year I’d like to take a proper vacation and do a bit of traveling even if it’s just a few cities over for a few nights.
  5. Blog more. I used to be so into blogging years ago and it quickly became something I just stopped doing. I love looking back at all of my old posts and seeing what I wrote about 5+ years ago, and I want to start documenting that stuff again.

Overall mine are pretty boring 😛 What are yours?
