My Graphic Design Degree

Blogathon Day 10: If you went to school, what did you go to school for?

So I originally got my AA from a community college and then after that I went on to get my Bachelor’s degree, which I’ll mostly be talking about now. In January 2007 I started attending Florida State University, it was the only university I applied (which was dumb, but thankfully I got in!) and I was excited to move away from home and go to school.

The degree I actually got is a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Studio Art with a concentration and graphic and web design, although I don’t really use my degree right now as my job I have no regrets about getting it. I LOVED attending FSU and I loved their design program. I learned a lot from my professors as well as my fellow classmates and over the last few years have toyed with the idea of going back to school to get my Master’s (maybe one day). You can see some of the art I made for class above (one is a digital poster and the other is a self portrait painting), I still have a lot of the artwork I made in school and even some of the paintings I did for some of my classes still hang on the walls in my office.

My 2 favorite classes that I took were probably photography and painting. Photography was something I was always interested in and the class allowed me to not only learn how to take and process photos with a film camera, but also I got to use my Photoshop skills in editing the photos myself. My painting class I took with my figure drawing professor, so I already knew her which made things a lot easier. I learned A LOT from that class and really want to get back into painting.

If you want to see any of my classwork from when I was in school I have some of the work on my Flickr page.

For the entire month of January I’m participating in a Blogathon. All posts associated with it can be found under the Blogathon category.
